GHK-Cheyenne Day
GHK-Cheyenne Day was initiated in July 2004 with the company hosting over 800 people in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, for a cookout and social event to show GHK’s appreciation to the people of Cheyenne and the surrounding areas and to raise awareness and benefit the heritage of the pioneers of Roger Mills County. Since 2004, charitable contributions have been made to the Cheyenne/Roger Mills Coalition for Community Strengthening, the Roger Mills Historical Society, the Roger Mills Library Board/Centennial Museum and the Cheyenne City Park. The Hefner Pavilion at Cheyenne City Park was dedicated in August, 2005 in recognition of the support and friendship of MeiLi and Robert Hefner and GHK to the City of Cheyenne and Roger Mills County.
Redbud Classic
GHK has participated for several years in the Redbud Classic, an Oklahoma City tradition involving the community through fitness, fun and philanthropy. The Redbud, held each year during the month of April, offers numerous opportunities for families, friends and the entire community to join together in an exciting event, geared for all ages and fitness levels.
Citizens Caring for Children
GHK has partnered with Citizens Caring for Children, through their 'Santa Stop' program, to help fulfill the wish lists of several local foster children during the Christmas season. Citizens Caring for Children provides services for more than 3,000 Oklahoma foster children annually.
Hefner Fund
Because of their deep belief in the importance of the relationship between China and America for the coming century, MeiLi and Robert Hefner created the Hefner Fund to sponsor up and rising government officials and policymakers from China and the USA to further their studies at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and at the National University of Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. The Hefner Fund has also sponsored both Chinese and American students to Harvard and to the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy for its MPA one-year program. The study areas of focus for the fund are energy, culture and foreign policy.
Hefner Initiatives
MeiLi and Robert support several institutions including the Aspen Institute, the Aspen Strategy Group, the Center for a New American Security and the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard. They also established the "Hefner Initiative - Cheyenne" (Cheyenne High School, Oklahoma Public School) and "Hefner Initiative - OSSM" (Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics) awards that send two top students from each school to China and Singapore for a 10-day trip, full expenses paid. The winners of the award are encouraged to give talks to their community and share their experiences with family, friends and fellow students.
